What is Knee Revision Surgery ?

Knee revision surgery is a revision surgery which is performed when the primary knee replacement fails and your surgeon removes some or all the parts of the original prosthesis and replaces them with the new ones. It is a longer and more complex procedure. In this procedure, you are administered general or regional nerve block anesthesia. During the surgery, incisions will be made to remove the original implant while preserving as much as a bone as possible. The bone surfaces will be prepared for the revision implant. In rare cases, bone graft material is also used to help rebuild the knee. Then, the doctor inserts the specialized revision implant. A drain may be placed in your knee to collect any fluid or blood that may remain after the surgery.
