What is Arthroscopic Knee Surgery ?

Arthroscopic knee surgery is a surgical procedure to visualize, diagnose and treat various problems inside the knee joint. In this procedure, anesthesia is given according to the preference of the patient and the condition of the knee. To help prevent surgical site infection, skin on the knee will be cleaned. Small incisions are made known as portals in the knee. Any cloudy fluid will be rinsed away with the help of uninspiring solution. The surgeon will then insert the arthroscope and use the image projected on the screen to guide it.

The surgeon will diagnose if the surgery is needed. If surgery is needed, separate small incisions will be made and instruments such as shaving, cutting, grasping, meniscal repair etc are used. The incision is then closed with a stitch and the knee will be covered with a soft bandage.
